In 1987, Joel surprised many fans by going to the USSR with concerts as part of the "The Bridge" world tour. The musician performed in Leningrad, Tbilisi and Moscow (at the Olimpiysky sports complex), and also performed on the Musical Ring TV program, where he performed his songs solo and answered questions from the audience in the hall. As he later recalled, party workers who received tickets "by distribution" predominated in the halls of the capital, which were quite difficult to get.
