Roy, oğlu Alton´ı bir zamanlar üyesi olduğu dini tarikata kaptırmıştır. Özel güçlere sahip olan Alton´ın sadece bu tarikat değil, devlet de peşindedir. Bunun üzerine Roy arkadaşı Lucas´ın yardımıyla oğlunu kaçırır. Bir süre sonra onlara eşi Sarah da katılır. Böylece devlet ajanlarından kaçarken, Alton´ın güçlerinin de keşfedileceği bir yolculuk başlar. Baştan sona nefes nefese izlenen bu fantastik gerilimle Nichols, Spielberg, Carpenter veya Shyamalan gibi yönetmenlere göndermeler yapıyor ama kendi tarzını korumayı da başarıyor.
